Yangon – Myanmar’s National League for Democracy (NLD) on Thursday said it had secured enough seats to nominate two presidential candidates, following the outcome of recent elections.
The Union Election Commission (UEC) had announced that 18 more seats in the upper house was won by the NLD bringing the total to 95 out of 116 seats.
The additional figure meant NLD had surpassed the 84-seat threshold needed to nominate a presidential candidate from the upper house, a move which had weakened the position of its rival party. (dpa/NAN)
