ABUJA (SUNDIATA POST)- The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has pledged to continue its “Catch Them Young” programmes in public schools to educate students about the effects of illicit drug use.
Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General of NAFDAC, made this pledge during a special interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday.
Adeyeye stated that the agency had expanded the programme, which aimed to educate young people about illicit drug use and falsified medicine.
She emphasised the importance of interacting with young children, from elementary school to secondary school, to educate them about the dangers of illicit drug use.
The NAFDAC boss also discussed the recent counterfeit malaria drug in circulation, assuring that the agency was on top of the situation.
She noted that children’s medicine was easily falsified and that the agency would take action to prevent this and punish offenders.
Adeyeye also stressed that the agency would sanction any company involved in producing substandard products and work to ensure that penalties for such offenses were stiffened. (NAN)
