Maiduguri –  The Nigerian Air Force Officers Wives Association (NAFOWA) on Monday launched skills and vocational training for 150 widows and youths members of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) base community in Borno.

The NAFOWA President, Mrs Nafisa Abubakar, who launched the training in Maiduguri, said the gesture was aimed at providing support to the families of Air Force personnel engaged in fighting insurgency in the North East.
“This programme is in fulfillment of the promise I made to the women and widows at the NAF base Maiduguri when I visited some few weeks ago during the 52nd Anniversary.
“The women and widows then highlighted the need for capacity building and employment as some of their immediate need,” she said.
Abubakar added that the gesture was also aimed at motivating NAF personnel towards giving their best in the anti-terrorism war.

“We will all agree that a stable home front and improved welfare condition of personnel’s dependents is a morale booster for our soldiers and men in the battle front.

“Empowering them with the necessary skills can only lead to the youths being self reliant and the women and widows being better able to support their families,” she said.

Abubakar named some of the skills to be acquired to include computer training, hair dressing, catering, tailoring among others.

“The skills being offered include computer training, hair dressing, catering, tailoring, bread making, salon and barbing, aluminum works, leather works among others.

“These are skills that can easily be converted into gainful employment which is one of the aims of the programme,” she said. (NAN)
