Abuja – The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) says it has started receiving consignment of Zamzam water for distribution to pilgrims on their return.
The Chairman of the commission, Alhaji Abdullahi Muktar, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on Friday in Abuja.
He said airlines engaged in the transportation of the intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia had started ferrying the water to designated centres on their return journey.
He said this was part of the arrangement made by the commission to give each pilgrim a certain quantity of the water instead of allowing them to carry it from there.
He said the arrangement would ease the transportation of pilgrims and reduce cases of excess luggage while returning home.
Muktar said the commission would take delivery of 66,850 kegs of five litres of Zamzam, which would be distributed to the pilgrims.
The chairman said reports reaching the headquarters of the commission indicated that the airlift of the intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia had been hitch-free.
He said similar reports from the Holy Land had indicated that Nigerian pilgrims were not experiencing any problem. (NAN)
