LAGOS – The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has said that it will deploy Controller Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC) to further improve safety and efficient flow of traffic within the nation’s airspace.
The Managing Director of NAMA, Mr Ibrahim Abdulsalam, disclosed in a statement issued by the General Manager, Public Affairs of the agency, Mr Supo Atobatele, on Tuesday in Lagos.
Abdulsalam said that the agency, in partnership with Society International de Telecommunications Aeronautique (SITA), would deploy the CPDLC facilities to Lagos and Kano Control Centres.
He noted that the equipment would enhance long range data communication between Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) and pilots.
He said that the communication system would assist in the decongestion of busy ATC frequencies at the two centres. [eap_ad_1] According to him, the deployment of CPDLC will reduce ATC and pilot workload within the airspace.
“The installation of CPDLC will also enhance Air Traffic Management (ATM) capacity that will ensure accuracy of data, which will be exchanged between ATC and pilots of aircraft in flight.’’
The NAMA boss said deployment of the equipment would boost revenue collection by providing adequate, accurate and timely data for effective billing and collection.
He explained that with the increasing growth in air traffic and the growing demand for air navigation services, there was the need for NAMA to deploy appropriate infrastructure and technology.
He said that the installation of the equipment at the airport would enhance capacity in critical safety areas as well as Search and Rescue Coordination. (NAN)
