Lagos – A Sports Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Millicent Ifeanyichukwu, has bagged a golden award with a medal as a mark of recognition for positive journalism and contributing to taekwondo development.
The 2016 edition of Agoma Open Taekwondo Festival awards was for the effective coverage of the 15th edition of the Agoma Open Martial Arts Festival in which only taekwondo featured.
The competition was staged at the National Stadium, Lagos from June 2 to June 4 by an Olympian and founder of the tournament, Emmanuel Oghenejobo, in collaboration with the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation.
Oghenejobo, the festival’s Coordinator, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos that the objective of the competition was to promote martial arts.
He said that Ifeanyichukwu was found to be outstanding in the coverage of the event.
“This award is specifically to identify with Ifeanyichukwu who has exhibited a high performance of positive journalism in her coverage and particularly the Agoma festival,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, excited Ifeanyichukwu, has expressed gratitude to the organisers and coordinator of the event, saying she was delighted with the award and would continue to work hard.
“The awards came to me as a surprise; we had other journalists covering the event and as a NAN correspondent, as usual, I put in my best and the result is this award.
“I am glad to win this prestigious award given that it is the first in my career as a sports writer.
“I remain grateful to my colleagues for their support and encouragement which earned me the award.
“I specially, thank my husband who has been my pillar of a support. I dedicate the award to the progress of journalism and NAN,’’ she said.
NAN reports that Ifeanyichuckwu had presented the awards to Mr Joe Bankole, the Director, Lagos Operations of NAN, who received it with happiness.
Bankole urged her to always portray a positive image of the agency in her career and urged others to emulate her. (NAN)
