ABUJA – The Chairman, Board of Directors, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Alhaji Ibrahim Buba, has pledged the agency’s maximum support to the family of late Dame Oluremi Oyo.
Oyo was a former Managing Director of NAN. She died on Oct. 1 in a London hospital.
Buba made the pledge on Wednesday in Abuja when the board and management of NAN paid a condolence visit to the family of Oyo.
“We owe it a duty to support those who have served this country in life and in death.
“Mrs Oyo served this country in so many ways; from a humble beginning as a journalist and rising to the peak of the profession as the Managing Director of NAN.
“We must never forget her contributions to this country, and so must do all we can to support those she left behind, and the ideals she stood for,’’ Buba said.
The chairman said though the agency was aware of the health challenges of the deceased, “but none of us foresaw death’’.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of NAN, Olorogun Ima Niboro, said the whole agency was still in shock and disbelief over the demise of Dame Oyo.
Niboro, who described his predecessor’s death as a painful passage, said “we take solace in the fact that she has gone ahead of us to prepare a place’’.
In his response, the husband of late Oyo, Mr Vincent Oyo, said the visit by NAN was most significant for the family.
He thanked NAN for the visit, the kind words and tribute on the death of his wife.
He described his late wife as a loving mother and beautiful cook with a deep sense of humility.
“We hope to uphold the qualities she held in her lifetime,’’ he said.
Also speaking, her son, Mr Onome Oyo, said the family would continue to give thanks to God for the times they had with her and the lives she touched. (NAN)
