Al-Makura said that the 1,000 open-space stalls/shops in the market would accommodate tomatoes and fish sellers as well as other categories of petty traders.
Al-Makura said his administration was committed to promoting commerce and industry in the state.
The construction of Lafia Modern Market and Karu International market among others were in line with that commitment, he said.
“The intention of the state government for building these markets is to fight poverty, unemployment, reduce youth restiveness, raise the revenue base of the individual and the government
“It is also to improve on the standard of living of its citizenry.
“We realised that some category of businesses were not included in the earlier 3,000 shops built in Karu International Market.
“That is why we added about 1,000 open-space stalls that can accommodate sellers of tomatoes, fish and other items in that category”.
“This will go in a long way in improving the standard of living of the petty traders.
“It will also give them a sense of belonging, not only in the state, but in the affairs of business activities for the overall development of the country.” Al-Almakura said.
The governor urged the traders to be alive to their responsibilities in order to contribute their quotas to the development of the state and the country at large.
He also urged the citizens of the state to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation; for the overall development of the country.(NAN)
