Lafia – The Nasarawa State judiciary has set up five appeal panels to review and dispose 152 judgments delivered by lower courts in the state.
The Chief Judge of the state, Justice Suleiman Dikko, disclosed this on Monday while addressing counsel and litigants during the 2018 Second Appeal Session in Keffi Local Government Area.
He said that the 152 cases to be reviewed included 80 civil cases and 72 criminal cases.
He explained that out of the 80 civil appeal cases, 58 were old, while 42 were new ones.
According to him, out of the 72 criminal cases, 51 are old cases, while 31 are new ones.
He said “panel 1 would be presided over by Justice John Aisha Basie and Ozegya Aliyu, while panel two, three, four and five would be presided over by Rose Oseji and Hanatu Kabir, Haruna Offor and Mustapha Ramat.
“Others are Daniel Adeck, Samuel Ayiwulu, Danjuma Oyigbunu and Asma Mainoma.
He warned the judges against corrupt practices, adding that he had set up machinery to check the possibility of corrupt moves by judges and other staff.
He advised persons who engage in one form of corruption or the other to desist from such before being caught.
Alhaji Ahmed Loko, the Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Keffi branch, commended the chief judge for prompt holding of the appeal session.
Loko assured him of full cooperation of the bar.
He, therefore, appealed for renovation of courtrooms in the state to make them more befitting for smooth administration of justice.
