Nasarawa monarch urges Nigerians to embrace farming

Loko    –     The traditional ruler of Loko in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Abubakar Sabo, has called on Nigerians to embrace farming in order to boost food sufficiency and the socio-economic development of the country.

Sabo, who is the Mai Loko of Loko Chiefdom, made the call on Sunday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in his palace in Loko.

“God has endowed the country with abundant fertile land and agile human capital that is capable of mass producing the nation’s food requirement, hence the need for people to embrace farming.

“ If youths and other Nigerians go back to the farms, it will not only reduce overdependence on oil but will also fight poverty, unemployment, youth restiveness and other social vices.

“No society can live comfortably without agriculture.

“ Agriculture is the major source of live hood of every family, nation and its importance cannot be overemphasised in the development of any society,” he said.

He has also urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the peace and unity of the country, adding that no nation could achieve meaningful progress and development without peace.

The monarch further appealed to Muslim faithful and Nigerians to continue to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari and other public office holders.

He said sustained prayers would enable the nation to overcome acts threatening its peaceful coexistence.

The first class monarch said that Prophet Muhammad preached peace, love and unity, adding that all true followers of Islam must emulate these virtues.
