Yusuf-Agabi, who made the call in Toto, the headquarters of Toto Local Government Area of the state in continuation of his campaign tour on Thursday, called on the governor to do so in the interest of transparency.
According to him, “Gov Al-Makura’s inability to publish the financial statement of the state since he assumed office four years ago is undemocratic”.
He said that the governor had always laid claims to running a government anchored on probity and transparency, yet unable to make public the financial statement of the state.
“Al-Makura has always told the people of Nasarawa that his government is without blemish with regard to appropriating public funds, one wonders why he has not been able to furnish us with how he spends our money,” he said.
The candidate claimed that the state’s accounting system lacked due process.
“Constitutionally, people of the state have the right to know how much comes in and how it is expended at the end of every fiscal year,” he said.
He called on the state House of Assembly to insist that such publications were made public in the spirit of public integrity.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Information, Mr. Hamza Elayo, said the allegations were unfounded and untrue.
He said the state government had published it financial records up to 2013, adding that it was impossible to have compiled the record of 2014 for publication. (NAN)
