LAFIA – The Nasarawa State Polytechic, Lafia, said on Thursday that it had received science equipment worth N100 million from Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TEFUND) to boost the standard of education in the state.
Dr.Silas Gyar, the Rector of the institution, made this known in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia.
He said that the special intervention from TETFUND would not only boost the teaching and learning of science education but allso improve on the standard of education in the institution and the state at large.
“First and foremost, I want to commend Gov. Tanko Al-Makura for giving top priority to the education sector in the state through initiating good education policies and programmes to boost teaching and learning in the state.”
“We also want to thank the Federal Government through TEFUND intervention, and I want to disclose to you that this institution has received science equipment worth N100 million from TETFUND to boost teaching and learning in this institution.
“The science equipment include over 30 microscopes, projectors, three deep freezers, processors, among others; these facilities will assist in boosting science teaching and learning for the overall development of the country.”
Gyar appealed to the Federal Government to initiate more programmes in the institution to improve on the standard of education in the state and the country at large, stressing that education is the best legacy government could bequeath to its citizenry.
He promised to turn the institution to a centre of excellence by providing studios and theatre with modern equipment to boost teaching and learning in the institution.

The rector also said that the institution would soon commerce Higher National Diploma (HND) in Science Technology, considering the importance of science to the socio-economic development of any society.
Gyar used the medium to appeal to the students of the institution and others students to shun cultism, examination malpractice and others social vices in their interest and for the overall development of the country.
He noted that cultism and other social vices had affected the education sector and the socio-economic development of the country negatively, hence the need for all hands to be on deck in order to fight the menace for the benefit of all. (NAN)
