Lafia – Academic and Non-Academic staff unions of the three Nasarawa state-owned tertiary institutions under the aegis of Joint Union of Nasarawa State Tertiary Institutions (JUNSTI) have suspended their two months old strike .
Members of the union from the state Polytechnic Lafia, College of Agriculture Lafia and College of Education Akwanga, downed tools on Feb. 12, over non payment of promotion arrears and other entitlements.
Mr Paul Useni, state Chairman of JUNSTI, told newsmen on Thursday in Lafia that the decision to suspend the strike was reached at the emergency congress of the joint union.
He said the joint unions had met with the state government and reached an agreement on their terms in the interest of the state.
He, therefore, directed members of JUNSTI to return to their duty posts forthwith.
Some of the demands of the unions were payment of four years promotion arrears, payment of pension to retired staff since 2015 and the implementation of 65 years retirement age for non-academic staff.
