Nasarawa to build Ultra Modern Market in Akwanga

AKWANGA – The Nasarawa State Government has concluded arrangements to build an ultramodern market in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state, Gov. Umaru Al-Makura said.

The governor said this on Thursday when he laid the foundation for the construction of the market in Akwanga.

According to him, the market, when completed, will help in decongesting the Akwanga old market and reduce the rate of accident in the area.

“The market, which will be built in three phases, will have over 1,200 shops, as well as toilets, warehouses, a parking space, a police station and other modern facilities befitting of a standard market,” he said.

He added that the project was part of his administration’s policy of urban renewal to help to stimulate economic growth and increase revenue generation in the state. [eap_ad_1] The governor said that the state government had mapped out strategies to build modern markets in the state to boost economic development activities.

“I am very optimistic that this effort will promote commerce, economic growth and reduce youth restiveness in the state”.

He added that government was creating an environment that would enable the construction of multipurpose markets across the state and enhance participation by indigenes in the project.

He urged the contractors to mobiles to site within one week in order to ensure the completion of work in six months.

Mr Brass Emmanuel, the state’s Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, said the government would supervise the project closely to ensure that the consultant complied with the terms of the agreement.

Earlier, the Consultant handling the project, Mr Shehu Tukur, promised that the project, which was in three phases, would be completed within six months. (NAN)
