KEFFI – The Nasarawa State University, Keffi, said on Tuesday that it had received over N1.2 billion from the Federal Government’s Special Intervention Fund on Education.
Mr Bankole Adeowu, the university’s Acting Director, Physical Planning unit, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Keffi, Nasarawa state.
NAN reports that as part of the federal government’s intervention in education in 2012, it approved N95,653 billion for public tertiary institutions in the country, through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).
Adeowu said that this special intervention by the federal government had not only helped change the physical structures in the university but had also affected the academic activities of the institution positively.
“I want to tell you that the Federal Government’s Special Intervention Fund for the Education Sector has helped in improving on the standard of education in this institution and the country at large.
“The fund has helped the institution in construction of lecture theatres, staff offices, academic complex, purchase of furniture and vehicles, among other development projects.
“The institution has benefited over N1.2 billion from this fund and because of the intervention we have been able to reduce the accommodation challenges of our lecturers and students,’’ he said.
The acting director commended the federal government for its efforts in improving on the standard of education in the country and called for its sustenance.
He also commended the Nasarawa State Government and the management of the institution for giving priority to its development.
Adeowu called on the students to ensure proper maintenance of all infrastructures put in place by the university authority for their good and that of future students. (NAN)
