MAKKAH (Saudi Arabia) – The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and House of Representatives Committee on Health on Friday visited the pilgrims Medical Centre in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
Both teams expressed satisfaction with the facilities on ground, describing the centre as worthy of commendation.
The team was led by the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Sen. Muhammed Saleh, and the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Health, Rep. Garba Musa-Gurma.
Saleh represents Kaduna Central (APC), while Musa-Gurma represents Argungu/Augie federal constituency (PDP-Kebbi).
They acknowledged the remarkable achievements recorded at the centre from last year’s exercise in the area of facilities and the arrangement in the wards.
The team also noted the internal and external neatness of the centre.
The team expressed surprise when they discovered that some drugs that were provided last year were still available at the centre that had not expired.
The team, however, urged the medical team to ensure that the effort was sustained for effective and efficient healthcare service delivery.
“We have seen the conduct of the medical team that it has improved tremendously, because of dedication and attitude of the personnel.
“We must never rest whenever we achieve success, we must always try to consolidate on such successes.
“We have also seen how the generation of data and records helped in effective planning.
“When some British people were admitted in our hospitals last year they said that they have been going to hospitals for treatment but there was no improvement. [eap_ad_2] “But when they were advised to visit our hospital in the Holy Land because of their capability, they did reluctantly, but at last they were happy to have been treated,” Saleh said.
The team leader also congratulated the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) for making every Hajj exercise a success, urging it to redouble efforts in the subsequent operations.
Saleh also commended the Saudi Government for ensuring a hitch-free Hajj year-in- year-out.
On his part, Musa-Gurma expressed shock over the death of some pilgrims, praying to Almighty Allah to grant them eternal rest and give the families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
On accommodation, the team visited Lagos State and Borno where they expressed satisfaction with what they saw on ground.
“We have visited some pilgrims’ accommodation; we usually visit pilgrims’ accommodation with certain factors in mind.
“These factors include the pilgrims distance from the Haram (Kaába); to see how many of the pilgrims are in a room; how many of them share toilets; the cleanliness of the place.
“The efficiency and the effectiveness of the space they are staying; the number of lifts available to them in the building, and the sanitation, among others,” he said.
The team expressed delight having discovered that all the criteria they needed in area of accommodation, were met.
“We did not see more than six people in a room, not more than six people sharing toilet facilities, among others.
“We are satisfied with the cleanliness of both inside and outside the accommodation, and the feeding arrangement have improved tremendously, overall, we are satisfied,” he said. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
