(EPE) LAGOS – Mr Lanre Odubote, a member of House of Representatives, representing Epe Constituency, on Friday said that street trading along the Epe expressway had created persistent traffic congestion in the community.
Odubote made the observation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Epe.
He advised traders to desist from hawking and displaying their wares along the major roads in the community.
According to him, in spite of shops provided by the local government, some traders still display their goods along the roads.
He said this often created obstruction to free flow of traffic and sometimes led to accidents.
“The state government has warned against street trading and mandated market men and women to utilise only designated market places provided by the government.
“There is need for Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) officials and security agencies to be on standby to enforce the ban on street trading,’’ Odubote told NAN.
He said government had zero tolerance for street trading, adding that those found wanting would henceforth be brought to book.
Odubote advised politicians not to politicise government policy on street trading.
He urged the people to abide by the directive of the state government on street trading and hawking in order to save lives and properties.
The legislator appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate with the traffic officers to achieve the desired objectives. (NAN)
