ABUJA – Vice President Namadi Sambo met behind closed-doors with principal officers of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The meeting was held in his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja few hours after the crisis that rocked the National Assembly, leading to members of the House of Representatives including the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, being prevented from gaining access into the complex.
They were also tear-gased by security operatives when they tried to force their way into the premises.
Sambo met with the lawmakers because President Goodluck Jonathan left the country for London after presiding over the swearing-in of the new Chief Justice of the Federation, Mahmud Mohammed.
Jonathan is expected to preside over a meeting of Nigeria’s Honorary International Investment Council holding in London.
The lawmakers were led to the meeting by the Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha.
Other lawmakers in the delegation were the House Leader, Mulikat Adeola-Akande; the Deputy House Leader, Leo Ogor; and the Chief Whip, Ishaku Bawa.
They arrived the Presidential Villa at about 5pm and left at about 6.15pm.
When approached to speaking on the purpose of the visit, Ihedioha with a wave of hand said, “happy democracy”, left with his delegation.
