ABUJA – Coach Usman Ilerika of FC Abuja on Friday said his team’s 1-0 defeat of city rivals NIMC FC was just the beginning of what would come this season.
FC Abuja beat NIMC FC 1-0 in a Nigeria Nation-Wide League (NNWL) Division One C Week Three Match on Thursday.
The match was played at the Area 3 Sports Complex in Garki.
Ilerika told NAN that his players had promised themselves before the game to show to the FCT football fans they were superior to NIMC FC.
The coach however said he was happy that they proved themselves.
“They (NIMC FC) were lucky not to have conceded more than one goal, because my boys were in too much of a hurry to score more goals.
“In a game like this, the better and much determined side usually comes out victorious.
“But our superiority will not end here. We will continue with this when we play the reverse fixture in the league’s second round,” Ilerika said.
A well-taken penalty kick in the 68th minute by striker Emmanuel Icha was all FC Abuja needed to win the match.
With this victory, FC Abuja now have six points from three matches, while NIMC have three points from three matches.
FC Abuja’s next league game will be away to Boro United FC in Kaduna on March 13, while NIMC FC will host CBN Cashless FC of Gombe in week four matches.(NAN)
