Some of the fans had almost invaded the pitch during the match between both sides at the Old Parade Ground.
But the timely intervention of policemen detailed to provide security during the match prevented this, but the coach later told newsmen that the fans attacked his team’s officials and the centre referee.
The match had seen the home side securing a late 2-1 win in the 2013/2014 Nigeria National League (NNL) Group A week 15 fixture.
Haggai said such violence would not allow for the growth of the game.
“This kind of violence will not help our football to grow. The match officials even took some decisions which were against my players, but we didn’t turn violent because of this.
“All the same, my players were matured in the whole process. If not for the efforts of the securitymen here, who knows, the worst would have happened.
“Fans who follow their team should be educated on the need to avoid violence anywhere they are, whether home or away,” Haggai said.
All efforts to speak with the Kwara United FC’s chief coach, Samson Unuanel, proved abortive.
During the match, Issac Itodo had put the Abuja-based club ahead of the visitors in the 38th minute after converting Michael Peter’s well-calculated cross.
The visitors capitalised on a defensive error to equalize in the 85th minute.
But the home team fought back to win the game after Eric Eric scored during stoppage time.(NAN)
