Director-General of the NSC, Mallam Alhassan Yakmut, has urged the national U-16 women team to go all out for victory in the FIBA Junior Basketball Championship billed to commence in Antananarivo, Madagascar, tomorrow.
The team departed the country for the event yesterday afternoon.
Speaking to the team during a brief send-forth organized by the NSC and the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Yakmut commended the girls for the hard work and resilience displayed during training, just as he reiterated the government’s desire to develop the game in the country.
Yakmut admonished the players to see themselves as Nigerian Ambassadors and represent the country with pride at the tournament.
He commended NBBF President, Tijjani Umar, and his board for taking Nigeria back to age grade competitions during his tenure as NSC director general.

Also speaking at the event, Umar assured the players that their welfare would be taken care of by the NBBF with the full support of the NSC.
Responding for the team, Head Coach, Adeka Daudu, thanked NBBF for the opportunity given to the technical crew to tutor the girls ahead of the championship, promising that they will be good ambassadors of Nigeria in Madagascar.
The players representing the country in the championship are Daniel Menani Denis, James Happy Rita, Seye Antorufa Anita, Okoli Maureen Chidimma, Oduah Vanessa Isioma, Akinbode James Onome, Mary Udueyin Omotayo, Ruth Ibeh Chinelo, Lucy Ezekiel Monica,Okoye Ifunanya Rosemary, Adams Ene Blessing and Ezeh Jennifer Adaeze.
The officials in the delegation are Daudu Adeka (Head Coach), Ogunade Shomala Shola (Assistant Coach), Manuwa Ademola (Team Doctor), Salami Priscilla Eniaghe (Physiotherapist), Famogbiyele Olayinka Kehinde (Accompanying Referee) and Okon Anya Patience, who is the team’s secretary.(The Guardian)
