ONITSHA – The Nigerian Navy on Thursday arrested a syndicate which specialised in motorcycle snatching and duping unsuspecting members of the public in Onitsha, Anambra.
The suspects were nabbed along Atani road while trying to escape with a stolen motorcycle.
Parading the suspects, the Commanding Officer of the naval out-post in Onitsha, Capt. Mike Oamen, told newsmen that his men would continue to flush out criminals from the area.
“We will intensify our hunt for criminals both in the River Niger and the communities on its banks to ensure that our people are safe,’’ he said.
He, however, urged the residents not to shield any dubious or nefarious character around them.
“We need prompt information to continue to make Onitsha safe for all and check people with wicked intentions,’’ he said.
One of the suspects, told the newsmen that he had been on the crime for sometime.
The suspect said that he sold stolen motorcycles for N5,000 each.
“I will co-operate with the navy to get those who buy the motorcycles from me,’’ the suspect promised.
The two suspects were handed over to the police for further investigation. (NAN)
