ABUJA – The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Tuesday called on Abia State House of Assembly to exercise restraint over its alleged resolution calling for the removal of the state Chief Judge, Justice Nnenna Otti.
This is contained in a statement issued by the President of the association, Mr Okey Wali in Abuja.
Wali, according to the statement, is urging the assembly to exercise restraint in dealing with matters concerning the judiciary in the state.
He said that such development was coming too soon after the return of normalcy to the state Judiciary.
He, therefore called on Gov. Theodore Orji to reject any invitation to politicise the office of the state Chief Judge as well as the state judiciary in general. “The NBA has also monitored various misleading radio reportage of the event to the effect that the Abia State House of Assembly has removed the Chief Judge of Abia State for gross misconduct.
“We trust that Abia State Government will be properly advised by the Chief Law Officer of the state, the Honourable Attorney General of Abia State,” Wali stated.
The president further called for an independent, virile and fearless Judiciary at all levels of government,
Wali reiterated that the Judiciary was the bedrock of democracy and the rule of law. (NAN)
