LAGOS – An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, on Monday fixed June 24 for the commencement of the trial of one Olubusoye Ayodeji,40, who allegedly stole N68.7 million.
Ayodeji, who allegedly stole the sum from the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Plc., where he was the Plant/Logistics Manager, is facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
NAN also reports that Adedeji was first arraigned on April 9 before Magistrate O.I. Adelaja.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, Insp. Richard Odigie, contravene Sections 285(7) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The prosecutor had informed the court that, the accused and others now at large, committed the offences between June 2011 and June 2014, at the company’s office located in Iddo House, Lagos.
The prosecutor also alleged that the fraud was discovered when a forensic audit was conducted into the company’s account.
This led the company’s management to inform the police that arrested the accused for interrogation and prosecution, he said.
At the resumed hearing of the case on Monday, the prosecutor told the court that the matter was slated for mention and he, therefore, urged the court to fix a date when it would commence its trial.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O. I. Adelaja, fixed June 24 for the commencement of trial of the accused.
The accused had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges.
