The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has called for enhanced collaboration among Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and key industry stakeholders to tackle growing cyber threats within the country.
Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the NCC, made this statement during the opening of the Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) workshop held in Abuja. The event, organized in partnership with the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and other stakeholders, aimed to address cybersecurity challenges and their impact on national infrastructure.
Dr. Maida highlighted the importance of President Bola Tinubu’s Executive Order on Critical National Information Infrastructure, describing it as a timely measure to protect vulnerable systems and ensure resilience in the face of cyber incidents. He noted that the order would enhance stability, facilitate swift recovery from attacks, and foster trust among industry stakeholders.
He also emphasized the role of trusted information-sharing frameworks in improving risk assessments and interventions for critical infrastructure, ultimately strengthening the sector’s defenses.
Speaking at the event, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu noted that implementing the Executive Order would positively impact various sectors, including defense, transportation, banking, telecommunications, and education, contributing to Nigeria’s overall development. Ribadu urged all stakeholders to collaborate and play their part in safeguarding the nation’s critical infrastructure.
