The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has granted approval for the renewal of the spectrum lease agreement between MTN Nigeria Communications Plc and Natcom Development and Investment Limited (NTEL).
The renewed lease will span two years, starting from May 1, 2025.
This development was disclosed in a notice filed by MTN Nigeria’s Company Secretary, Barrister Uto Ukpanah, to the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX). The agreement encompasses NTEL’s 5MHz frequency division duplex in the 900MHz spectrum band and 10MHz FDD in the 1800MHz spectrum band, initially covering 19 states.
In addition to the renewal, the NCC has approved a one-year lease expansion to extend coverage to the remaining 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), effective January 1, 2025.
MTN Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola, expressed satisfaction with the agreement. “We are pleased with the renewal of the spectrum lease agreement with NTEL, which now includes coverage for all states, including the FCT. This lease enables us to enhance our 3G and 4G user experience, improving coverage and capacity while meeting the growing demand for data services,” Toriola stated.
The expanded and renewed spectrum lease agreement will enable MTN Nigeria to strengthen its network infrastructure, enhance service delivery, and meet the increasing connectivity needs of its customers across the country.
