The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, has been appointed into the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Communications (IIC).
The IIC is a global advocacy body focused on promoting telecommunications and media development worldwide.
Dr Maida, a key figure shaping Nigeria’s telecommunications landscape, comes into the ICC board with a wealth of experience and expertise.
Indeed, Maida’s leadership of the NCC has resulted in improvements of Nigeria’s telecoms industry, including advancing connectivity, fostering innovation, and promoting a competitive and inclusive telecommunications industry in the country.
The NCC boss’ appointment into the IIC Board of Directors will enable him to contribute globally to drive the development of telecommunications and media policies that benefit communities around the world.
Dr. Maida’s career is marked by his valuable contributions to several leading global organizations, including British Telecom, Cisco Systems, and EE Ltd. Notably, he was a part of the pioneering engineering team at UbiquiSys Ltd, a small-cell technology startup that was later acquired by Cisco Systems in 2013.
Before assuming his current role as Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Maida served as the Executive Director of Technology and Operations at the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement Systems PLC (NIBSS).
During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in modernizing Nigeria’s central digital payments infrastructure, ensuring its effectiveness as a critical component of the country’s financial ecosystem.
Dr. Maida’s educational background includes a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bath, an MEng in Information Systems Engineering from Imperial College London, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship from the Cambridge Judge Business School. His extensive knowledge and experience make him a valuable addition to the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Communications (IIC), where he will continue to drive innovation and development in the telecommunications and media sectors.
