Calabar – The National Communications Commission (NCC) has donated Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment to the Cross River State Police Command to boost crime control.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the facilities included: two Laser Jet printers and five laptop computers.
The Zonal Controller of NCC in Port Harcourt, Mr Chidi Diugwu, made the donation on Thursday in Calabar.
Diugwu said the donation was meant to strengthen the existing relationship between the Police and the NCC.
He said the donation was also meant to appreciate the Police for protecting NCC equipment against vandalisation in the state.
According to him, the core mandate of the commission is to regulate and license the operations of telecom providers across the country with a view to ensuring quality services for subscribers.
He said that NCC was working closely with the relevant security agencies across the country to ensure that its equipment were not vandalised by hoodlums.
“The Nigerian Police and the NCC have a long standing relationship. On behalf of the entire management of NCC, we are donating two printers and five laptop computers to the Cross River Police Command to enhance their operations.
“We appreciate their efforts in securing our equipment from vandals especially as the Information and Communication Technology tools will aid them in their operational duties in the state’’, he said.
Receiving the items, the State Police Commissioner, Mr Jimoh Ozi-Obeh, thanked the NCC for its magnanimity, saying that the command had foiled two attempts by hoodlums to vandalise their equipment in the state.
Ozi-Obeh assured the NCC that the command would upgrade its strategy to ensure that all facilities and equipment of the commission within the state were secured.
He assured the NCC that the equipment donated would be adequately used to foster intelligence security gathering in the state.
