ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – To ensure security of the Internet the The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is partnering with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to hold a webinar today, Thursday, December 12, 2024.
Slated for 12, 2024, at 11:00 AM WAT, the webinar aims to promote DNSSEC validation and ensure Nigeria achieves increased awareness by the end of the year.
It is also aimed at increasing awareness of Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) in Nigeria.
The NCC, in a post on its verified social media account, stated that the webinar is to have at least 50% DNSSEC validation in the country by the end of the year.
Indeed, the Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) is a suite of specifications developed by ICANN to enhance the security of the Domain Name System (DNS).
The DNS serves as the internet’s phonebook, translating human-friendly domain names into IP addresses that enable computers to locate and communicate with each other on the network.
Consequently, by implementing DNSSEC, website owners can significantly improve their site’s security and safeguard their users from potential threats.
Also, DNSSEC achieves this by introducing digital signatures to DNS data, ensuring that the DNS responses received are authentic and have not been tampered with during transit.
Indeed, as cyber threats continue to grow in sophistication and frequency, adopting DNSSEC becomes increasingly crucial for maintaining the integrity of the internet infrastructure and protecting users from malicious attacks.
The collaboration between NCC and ICANN in hosting a DNSSEC awareness webinar emphasises the importance of promoting and implementing these security extensions in Nigeria and across the global internet community.
