Abuja – Clifford Enesorgbe on Sunday in Abuja defeated Moses Michael, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 in the National Communication Commission (NCC) Tennis Cup.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match was played at the National Tennis courts, at the Package B of the Abuja National Stadium in the Federal Capital Territory.
Michael representing Team Tombim opened the match with solid strokes to end the first set with a 6-3 advantage.
However, Enesorgbe of Team Civil Defence came back strongly to claim the second set before a tiebreaker which saw him claim the third set, 7-6.
Enesorgbe told NAN that he started slowly in the first set but came back strongly in the second set.
“I started slowly and lazily, while Moses played tough games in the early part of the match; he was going for shots, but I woke up in the second and final sets,’’ he said.
On his part, Michael said he never anticipated his loss, going by his first set lead.
“I was on top in the first set and I was playing well and hitting all my balls; I cannot explain what went wrong along the way.
“I lost the second set and I can’t explain what happened in the last set which was the tiebreaker. I lost in spite all my efforts.
“However, I will learn from my mistakes because I am using this match to prepare for the All Africa Games,” he said.
