Badagry (Lagos State) – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) , Seme Command, on Wednesday said it generated N10.7bn as revenue from January to December 2015.
Mr Selchang Taupyen, the command’s spokesman, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Seme that the revenue was higher than N9, 680,465,372.88 generated in the corresponding period in 2014.
Taupyen attributed the improvement to the revenue accrued from the Vehicle Import Transit Regime and the efforts of the command in blocking leakages.
“In 2015, N10, 735, 039, 623 was generated from January to December and it was a significant improvement over what was generated in the corresponding period in the Year 2014.
“The improvement was due to the efforts of officials of the command in ensuring that all revenue loopholes were blocked and also the vehicle import transit contributed to soar up in the revenue.
“We are sure of surpassing the N 13 billion target for this year because we have doubled our efforts in ensuring that we achieve this year’s target,’’ he said.
He said that the command made 519 seizures with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N201.8million in 2015.
“That figure was lower than 686 seizures made in 2014,’’ Taupyen said.
He said that the decrease in the number of seizure made in the period under review was as a result of the anti-smuggling sensitisation at the grassroots
“The items seized include : vehicles, rice, frozen poultry products, petroleum products, shoes among others.

“The reduction in the seizures made goes to show that our anti -smuggling sensitisation at the grassroots is paying off.
“This shows that more people are embracing legitimate trade,’’ Taupyen said.
The command’s spokesman advised Nigerians to engage in legitimate trade and desist from smuggling. (NAN)
