Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Camp Highland is set to commence in Plateau and Kaduna States for Army Cadets where the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), will train cadets on control abilities among other skills, beginning from 28 July to 17 August 2024.

The training is part of the outdoor field training exercise for Army Cadets of 71 Regular Course and Direct Short Service Course 28.

Spokesman for the Academy, Major Mohammed Maidawa said in a statement sent to our correspondent on Thursday that The exercise is designed to assess the cadets leadership skills, application of tactics, command and control capabilities, physical fitness, amongst other areas of military training.

According to him: “The exercise is an important military training activity used in ascertaining the preparedness of the cadets for commissioning as officers into the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“The phase of the exercise that would take place in Plateau State is the  Adventure and Leadership Training at the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, Shere Hills, Jos from 28 July to 3 August 2024.

He continued: “Furthermore, Map Reading, Tactical Drills and Battle Inoculation Drills would take place in the Kachia general area from 3 – 16 August 2024.

Maidawa appealed to communities living around Heipang and Shere Hills in Jos to bear with the Army as heavy movement of military vehicles would be seen around the general area.

“Residents within Heipang and Shere Hills will observe mass movement of military personnel, vehicles and equipment in the general area from 29 July -2 August 2024.

“Similarly, residents of Katul Crossing – Fadan Kamanta axis in Zagon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State will observe the same tactical drills involving firing /simulation of small arms and artillery fire from 12 and 13 August 2024.

“Residents in the general areas mentioned above are therefore advised not to panic but to go about their normal daily routine activities without fear. They are, however, advised to report any breach of security to the nearest authorities”, he said.

The statement included that battle Inoculation, which would involve live firing of small arms, armor and artillery weapons will be conducted from 16 August 2024, within the Military Exercise Area near Nigerian Army Base Camp, Kachia, adding that locals around ANINKWA, Insame and neighboring communities are advised to stay away from the live firing area during the period of the exercise.

“Therefore, locals around ANINKWA, INSAME and neighboring communities are advised to stay away from the live firing area during the period of the exercise.

“On our part, all necessary safety measures and arrangements have been put in place to ensure safety in the exercise areas.

“We wish to appeal for cooperation from the local communities directly affected by the exercise and Nigerians as a whole as we train future military leaders for our Armed Forces”, Maidawa said.
