PORT HARCOURT – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC),has commenced the
training of 150 secondary school teachers on Information Communication Technology (ICT), designed to equip them with requisite knowledge on ICT.
Mr Ibitoye Abosede, NDDC’s Head of Corporate Affairs, said in a statement on Wednesday in Port Harcourt that the exercise was part of the commission’s “educate-the-educators” programme.
He said that the teachers would each receive free lap top computers in the commission’s bid to boost ICT among teachers in nine states that make up the commission.
“The commission is fully focused on driving the process of providing infrastructure and building human capacity by partnering relevant organisations to build teachers capacity in ICT.
“It has come to the commission’s notice that about 65 per cent of teachers in the Niger Delta are deficient in ICT, a development that impacts negatively on our education sector.
“NDDC seeks to reduce this ICT deficiency through our educate-the educators programme,” he said.
Abosede said that the commission recently concluded the training of 5, 000 teachers in various science subjects.
He also said that 810 tertiary graduates had also benefited from its scholarship scheme for youths in the region. (NAN)
