Bauchi, – The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) began the training of 50 unemployed youths in vocational skills in Bauchi State on Wednesday.
NDE coordinator in the state, Mr Lawan Yaya, said the training would be held for 18 months by the directorate’s Vocational Skills Department.
Yaya said participants were selected from the 20 local government areas of the state.
He said the NDE decided to hold the training for 18 months as the two months being spent previously was inadequate.
“For example, three months is even inadequate to train an apprentice in tailoring,’’ he said.
Yaya said current participants would be trained in tailoring, carpentry, auto-mechanics, auto electronics, and shoe and bag-making.
He said that 95 per cent of the participants would not be able to pay for the training if it was organised by private individuals, hence the free training by the NDE.
The NDE coordinator urged participants to be focused and to abide by the training’s rules and regulations.
“You should put extra efforts to ensure that within this period, you actually learn something so that you would become employers of labour,’’ he charged participants.
Reacting on behalf of others, a trainee, Malam Isa Abdullahi, thanked the Federal Government and NDE for the gesture.
Abdullahi promised that they would attend the training with undivided attention to acquire more skills and become employers of labour. (NAN)
