Bauchi – The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) on Tuesday commenced the training of 50 students of Bauchi State origin drawn from various institutions of higher learning on animal and crop production.
Speaking during the opening ceremony in Bauchi, the Director General (DG) of NDE, Dr Nasiru Argungu, said the training was part of the Federal Government’s efforts to empower the citizens and make them self-reliant.
The DG, represented by Mr Lawan Yaya, NDE Bauchi State Coordinator, said the exercise was under the Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS) of the directorate.
He said the scheme was concerned with the training of unemployed youths, using modern technology in agricultural production.
The NDE boss further explained that the programme was intended to provide more profitable farm incomes thereby enhancing the quality of life of farmers, their families and the communities at large.
“This is a scheme which is concerned with the training of unemployed youths using modern technology to provide more profitable farm incomes.
“The training would definitely go a long way in enhancing the quality of life for farmers, their families and communities at large,” Argungu said.
He identified agricultural skills as a vital tool of generating mass employment for the teeming jobless population.
One of the trainees, Ibrahim Sulaiman from the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, expressed gratitude to NDE for the training, adding that it would help in improving the economic status of the state.
