Lagos – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday arraigned one Andrew Elijah at a Federal High Court, Lagos, for allegedly dealing in substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
Elijah, 19, and unemployed, with no definite address, was said to have been caught by officials of the agency with 500 grammes of the substance.
The Prosecutor, Mr Orji Kalu, an NDLEA officer, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 13, at New Market in Lekki area of Lagos.
Kalu said that the accused was caught by an NDLEA patrol team, adding that the offence contravened Section 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws, of the Federation 2004.
The accused pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of illegally dealing in narcotic drug.
The prosecutor, therefore, urged the court to remand the accused in prison custody and asked for an adjournment to enable him to review the facts of the case.
“In view of the plea of the accused, I urge the court for a date to review the facts of the case.
“I also urge the court to remand the accused in prison custody pending the review of facts,” he pleaded.
In his ruling, Justice Mohammed Yunusa, ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison custody.
