The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Wednesday filed a one-count charge of drug trafficking, against a 20-year-old artisan, Yahaya Ashiru, in a Federal High Court in Lagos State.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) charged Ashiru, with one count of drug trafficking in the charge marked FHC/L/238c/2021
The NDLEA Counsel, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, alleged that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 13.
He said that Ashiru was arrested under the bridge at the Ijora area of Lagos, for unlawfully dealing in cannabis weighing 800g.
The cannabis, he said, is classified as a banned narcotic similar to Cocaine, heroin and other restricted hard drugs listed in the NDLEA schedule as being prohibited by law.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Law of the Federation 2004.
The Act provides a penalty of life imprisonment if convicted on the offence.
No date has been fixed for arraignment of the defendant.
