Ado-Ekiti – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ekiti State Command, on Thursday said that it would seize and destroyed any farmland used for the cultivation of Cannabis in the state.
The Public Affairs Officer of the agency, Mr Peter Njoku, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ado-Ekiti.
He said that officers of the NDLEA have set up strategies and measures to discover farmlands that were on lease or sold to unidentified persons, that were being used to cultivate cannabis.
Njoku said most of the farms that were being used to cultivate cannabis were mostly located in remote areas that could not be easily traced.
The spokesman noted that any farmland found with cannabis would be seized and anyone caught on such land would be arrested and prosecuted.
He appealed to all traditional rulers and chiefs in Ekiti to educate and inform their sons and daughters not to lease or sell their lands to unidentified persons, who may use it for unlawful businesses.
Njoku, however, warned that anyone traditional ruler or land owner who fails to cooperate with the agency, would be arrested and be made to face the full wrath of the law.(NAN)
