The Chairman, Senate Committee on Army Ali Ndume has expressed sadness over the death of Commander of the Sector ll Damboa military command in Borno State, Colonel DC Bako.
Bako died while receiving treatment at the the 7 Division Hospital at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri following injuries he sustained at an ambush by the Boko Haram insurgents.
The late Colonel had led a patrol to Sabon Gari-Wajiroko axis near Damboa when the incident occurred.
Ndume, in a statement in Abuja, commiserated with family of the deceased, people of Damboa, the Military command in Damboa and the Nigeria Army over the loss of Bako.
The lawmaker, who represents Borno South, noted the late Colonel lived gallantly and paid the supreme price in defense of his fatherland.
“He shall be sorely missed and forever remembered by the people of Damboa, Borno and the nation,” Ndume said.
The Senator prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased in Jannatul Firdaus as well as ultimate victory in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents.
Ndume also applauded appointment of Mai Mustapha Umar Mustapha Aliyu as the 29th Emir of Biu by Governor Babagana Zulum.
He congratulated the new Emir and urged him to replicate the virtues of his predecessor, the late Mai Umar Mustapha Aliyu, as well as those of his forefathers on the throne.
He called on all sons and daughters of Biu Emirate to give the new Emir their maximum cooperation and support.
He thanked the Governor of Borno State for the appointment and commended the Biu Emirate kingmakers for making the right choice.
He prayed God to grant the Emir wisdom, long life, good health and guide him in the discharge of his duties.
He also prayed for the success and progress of the Biu Emirate, Borno State and the nation at large.
