ABUJA – The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, on Thursday in Abuja charged the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to address the current epileptic power supply in the FCT.
Nebo gave the charge when he paid an unscheduled visit to the company to ascertain the cause of the recent drop in power supply in the territory.
The minister said the erratic power supply in FCT and its environs, especially in key government establishments, was not acceptable.
He said that Abuja as the seat of power, could not afford to operate under low power supply.
Nebo called on the management of the company to do a thorough check for correctable lapses and prioritise load shedding to ensure that there was equitable distribution of electricity. “There is cheering news from other cities about improvement in power supply, whereas Abuja, where major government transactions take place is unfortunately starved of the needed regular power supply,’’ he said.

In a remark, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Power, Dr Godknows Igali, enjoined the company to properly balance its load shedding by giving priority allocation to public buildings. He assured the company of the ministry’s support in tackling the challenges confronting it in the distribution of power to Abuja and its environs.
The Managing Director, AEDC, Mr Neil Croucher, said the amount of power supplied to the FCT had dropped drastically, necessitating the company to ration what was available.
He said that the issues raised by the minister were of great concern to the company, adding that prompt response would be given to them.
Croucher said that his company was discussing with five other electricity companies to ensure increase in power supply to Abuja and its environs. (NAN) [eap_ad_4]
