ABUJA – The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, said the Federal Government had concluded plans to strengthen transmission infrastructure to boost power supply in the country.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Timothy Oyedeji, Deputy Director, Press, in the ministry on Monday in Abuja.
According to the statement, the minister made the pledge in Abuja at the “Azura Transaction Closure” summit, which is a forum for investors seeking to invest in the power sector.
Nebo said that the Federal Government was working round the clock to address the challenge of inadequate transmission infrastructure.
He said that was with a view to ensuring that all power generated in the country was wheeled-out by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
He described the Azura project as the “most important milestone” in the development of Independent Power Plants in Nigeria as it had paved the way for others to learn from its experience.
The minister said that the present administration was committed to repositioning the power sector through the just-concluded privatisation and ongoing reforms of the sector.
Earlier at the forum, Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo said Federal Government’s privatisation of the sector would ultimately lead to efficient service delivery in the sector.
He said that even as a unionist, he had always appreciated the fact that the challenge of poverty could only be fought through sustained and concerted efforts at wealth creation, “hence the private sector is a leader in this direction.”
He commended the initiator of Azura project, David Ladipo, for his doggedness and foresight in constructing Independent Power Plants in the country.
The governor said that the Edo Government was committed to partnering the private sector, “and indeed all genuine investors” in deepening the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the economy of the state by creating appropriate waivers and incentives.
He assured potential investors of investment-friendly host communities in the state in addition to peaceful and secured environment.(NAN)
