Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Federal lawmaker representing Delta North senatorial District, Sen Ned Nwoko has condemned in strong terms, the killing of a 2-year old toddler in Delta State by operatives of the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
This is also as he has called for reasonable level of compensation for the family of the victim and any other families that have suffered similar situations.
Senator Nwoko stated this on Wednesday while addressing National Assembly correspondents. He warned that those carrying gun must show discipline in the way and manner they use these guns. Stressing that we cannot afford to have such incidences anymore.
He said Nigerians, irrespective of their status deserved to live and not to be killed by those who are being paid to protect them and their property.
While expressing his condolence to the family of the victims, Nwoko assured that the perpetrators of the killing will not go scot free. He said that what led to this must be properly investigated and timely too and prescribed sanctions applied maximally.
Sen. Nwoko therefore called on security agencies to conduct proper background check and ensure those who are to be recruited pass through mental health test, adding that this will put a stop to avoidable killings of innocent people by the armed operatives of the nation’s security agencies.
The Senator Nwoko has earlier today sponsored a motion on the floor of the Senate titled: ”Need to investigate the incessant and nefarious acts of crude oil Thefts in the Niger Delta and it’s actors.
The Delta born multimillionaire budinessman assured Nigerians that both chambers of National Assembly would continue to support Security agencies in ensuring adequate protection of lives and property of the citizens regardless of their social status and also put a stop to incessant killings being perpetrated by some bad eggs in the nation’s law enforcement agencies.
He offered to sponsor a bill for the establishment of a commission to carter for such unforseen situations where the victims and families are left of their own.
