ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), have deployed relief materials to victims of the suspected Fulani herdsmen attack in Agatu Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.
The Senior Information Officer, NEMA, Mr. Sani Datti, in a statement on Tuesday, said that the two agencies have established three camps in Apa town for the displaced residents of the eight communities of the LGA that were affected by the recent attack by suspected herdsmen.
Datti said that about 8,642 of the displaced persons are being profiled at the camps as NEMA has despatched humanitarian relief items to cushion their conditions.
According to him, the affected persons who are mostly women and children are rescued from the bush where they ran for safety.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
He said that the NEMA North Central Zonal coordinator, Abdulsalam Muhammad led the humanitarian intervention of the Agency to strengthen supports of the Benue State Government in assisting the displaced communities in Agatu.
In a related development, NEMA in the North East has provided medication to Benishek Camp, in continuation of efforts to provide relief to residents of liberated communities in Borno state.
The Information Officer of NEMA, North East, Mr. Abdulkadir Ibrahimh, the agency delivered food and essential basic needs to Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Benishek Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp.
Ibrahim said that the Commanding Officer 29 Brigade Task Force of Nigerian Army, who also oversees satellite IDP camp, Brig-Gen. BA Raji commended the agency’s efforts in addressing the plights of IDPs especially through its Mobile Medical Team (MMT) that provides medications at the camp.
He disclosed that the Camp is hosting people from recently liberated communities around Benishek which include Galangi, Zakurari, Shettimari ,Burma, Jalori, shettimanuri and Walari.
The team, he said, also conducted a need assessment to identify the medical supplies needed at the clinic set up by UNICEF to cater for women and children with a view to providing more capacity (drugs and consumables) to the clinic to enable it cater for all persons with medical issues in the camp.
