KADUNA – The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Wednesday
commenced the training of journalists on disaster management.
Speaking to the the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna, Malam Musa
Illalah, the Zonal Coordinator (North West), of the agency, said the
training was aimed at sensitising journalists on disaster reporting.
“The training will help in developing a modest blueprint that could be
used for information management during disasters.”
Illalah said the initiative was in pursuance of the agency’s mandate to
coordinate disaster management in Nigeria.
According to him, the training will also help in reviewing the challenges
faced by NEMA and other relevant agencies during disasters or violence.
He said the exercise would further help reduce the pandemonium the media
often created during disasters.
The coordinator, therefore, urged journalists to participate actively,
stressing that the role of the media could not be overemphasised. (NAN)
