Neptune Network Nigeria Limited (NNNL), publishers of Neptune Prime (English and Hausa editions), in collaboration with Yobe First Movement, is set to host a zonal engagement and training workshop on citizen journalism and social media reporting in Potiskum, Yobe State, on Wednesday.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Publisher and CEO of NNNL, Malam Hassan Gimba.
According to Gimba, the event aims to build the capacity of participants through practical training in citizen reporting and effective use of social media for public advocacy and information sharing. The initiative will enable civil society groups to accurately document and disseminate real-time developments, identify policy gaps, and highlight governance issues.
The session will bring together 20 civil society organizations from four local government areas—Potiskum, Fika, Fune, and Nangere—as part of the first phase of a broader state-wide rollout.
The training will feature expert facilitators including Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Bedu, a communications scholar and former Yobe NUJ chairman; Dr. Saleh Mari Maina, an experienced journalist and academic at the University of Abuja, Bayero University Kano (BUK), and Baba Ahmed University; Malam Abubakar Ahmed, a retired deputy director at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN); and Dr. Furera Bagel, a linguistics lecturer at Bauchi State University.
The organisers noted that the Potiskum training will serve as a pilot model for similar engagements across the rest of the state.
