ABUJA – Commodore Omatseye Nesiama, the Director of Sports, Nigerian Navy, on Saturday in Abuja described any physically unfit officer in the armed forces as a sitting duck for the enemy.
Nesiama made the remark at the end of a 10km “Route March’’ by ratings and officers of the navy.
“So, if one is physically unfit, he is useless in the service and that is why we make every effort that our personnel maintain physical fitness.
“Whether officers are at the front or not, they need exercise because we can be called upon at any time to join military operations.
“The exercise is actually designed to ensure the physical fitness of our personnel for operations, training and for their individual well-being’’, Nesiama said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 10km walk, a quarterly exercise and the last for 2014, began from Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro to Mambila Barracks and back to the cantonment. (NAN)
