Ibadan – Mr Adeleke Ajani, Zonal Director, National Environmental Standard And Regulatory Enforcement Agency (NESREA), has urged Oyo State Government and private companies to establish recycling plants for the proper management of solid wastes.
Ajani, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Ibadan on Wednesday, said it would not be out of place if each of the 33 local government areas in the state had, at least, one plant.
“Recycling is key to ensuring that the state is rid of nylons, pure water sachets, plastic bottles, water containers, etc.,” he said.
He emphasised the need to introduce the people to the culture of separating waste products into biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials as obtained n most developed countries.
“People should have the knowledge of separating nylons, plastic bottles and containers, which are not biodegradable, when disposing their wastes.

“This will make it easier for recycling to take place,” he said.
Ajani further called on graduates to embrace recycling as a means of employment, saying it had high potential for reducing the nation’s unemployment rate.
The director, however, disclosed that about 10 quarry sites in Oyo and Ogun states had been identified to have reached regulations on environmental impact assessment and risked being sealed.
“We have already issued letters to site officials, warning them to comply with the agency’s regulations within a stipulated time frame,” he said. (NAN)
