Port Harcourt – Maj.-Gen. Jamil Sarham on Monday assumed duty as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Rivers.
Maj.-Gen. Musa Yussuf, the outgone GOC of the division presented his successor, Sarham, at a formal handing over ceremony at the division’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.
Yusuf said the the new GOC would continue to promote professionalism which had remained the main focus of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai.
“The division has attained an acceptable standard of regimentation and professionalism through the introduction of different training activities which appeared alien to some.
“I have no doubt that my successor, Sarham, being a visionary person, will improve on the already existing achievements in the division for the benefit of the Nigerian Army.
Musa said the division had in the past six months held several trainings to improve the proficiency of officers and soldiers under the division.
“The training was conceptualised to re-awaken all towards ensuring that the formation’s direction is in accordance with the COAS vision of having a professionally responsive Nigerian Army.
“I am fulfilled that most of you have now taken more interest to enhance your professionalism and regimentation since the introduction of the training activities,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Musa has been posted as GOC to 81 Division, Lagos.
He urged troops under 6 division to remain focused and extend same cooperation and loyalty to his successor.
Sarham was the immediate past Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Jaji, in Kaduna State.
