The Nigeria Football Federation has debunked the rumour that the Eagles were paid $5,000 each after they lost their final Group F game to Argentina 3-2.
According to reports from Punch, the NFF President Alhaji Aminu Maigari said that the players were not paid such amount.
He said, “We acknowledged the fact that they put up a good show against the Argentineans but it is not true that the players were paid $5,000.”
For couple of years now, the Eagles get$10,000 each for a win; $5,000 for a draw and nothing for a loss.
However, it was gathered that the federation decided to pay the loss bonus in other to get the Eagles prepared for the 2nd round match against France on Monday and a way to clear all issues of bonus.
An official said, “There was plan to pay them $5,000 for that game against Argentina on Sunday as a way of encouraging them against France. We had been put on alert until the strike action began. And with the Federal Government sending down over $3m to them, I guess there isn’t any need for that anymore.”
Nigeria are set to face 1998 champions, and 2006 runners up, in a second round match on Monday by 5pm.
