ABUJA – The Electoral Committee, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has not received any court order restraining it from organising the forthcoming NFF board election.
The Chairman of the committee, Samson Ebohme, made the clarification in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday.
The NFF Congress had on Sept. 20 in Warri, Delta, reconstituted the electoral committee for the Sept. 30 election into the NFF board.
The Chris Giwa-led NFF board, however, claimed they obtained a Federal High Court order in Jos restraining the NFF and its congress from going ahead with the election.
Ebohme, who promised to ensure that the election was concluded without fear or favour, said: “my work is to carry out the mandate of the NFF Congress along with members of the committee.
“We are not party to any suit; we have not been served with any paper and we don’t know of any law that forbids us from going ahead with our job.
“I don’t operate from the NFF secretariat; that NFF might have been served does not mean I know what is in the paper,’’ Ebohme said.
Ebohme, urged parties to the suit to endeavour to represent themselves in court as required by the constitution.
“As far as legal matters are concerned, they are not simple and straight forward as they appear.
“If somebody has gone to paste the court order on the door of the NFA, I don’t think that concerns me. [eap_ad_1] “I don’t know what the papers say and I don’t know who it is addressed to, so that has not affected me in any way; we are not party to that as far as we know.
“My committee members and I are not party to any paper or my committee should be my business.
“But if anybody has been served, those involved should take appropriate step to represent themselves in court as required by the constitution.’’
Taiwo Ogunjobi, a former NFA Secretary-General and Mike Umeh, former NFA Acting Chairman, are among the seven contestants jostling for the Chairmanship position of the NFF.
Others are; Amanze Uchegbulam, a former first Vice-Chairman of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick, the Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission and Dominic Iiorfa, Vice-Chairman of Lobi Stars FC, Markurdi.
Shehu Dikko, a member of the League Management Company (LMC) and Abba Yola, a one-time Special Adviser to the Minister of Sports are also in the race. (NAN)
